The insurance landscape for men's health telehealth is confusing — and that's partly by design. Most direct-to-consumer platforms operate outside insurance entirely, offering cash-pay pricing that bypasses the insurance bureaucracy but also bypasses insurance benefits you may be entitled to.
ED medications: Generic sildenafil and tadalafil are often covered by insurance with a copay, but typically through traditional pharmacies, not telehealth platforms. Many insurance plans limit quantities (6–8 tablets/month is common). If you have insurance, getting your prescription filled at a traditional pharmacy may be cheaper than a telehealth subscription.
GLP-1 medications: Insurance coverage for GLP-1 weight loss drugs has expanded significantly. Brand-name Wegovy and Zepbound are increasingly covered for patients with BMI ≥30 (or ≥27 with comorbidities). Compounded versions are generally not covered. GLP-1 Price List tracks insurance coverage by platform.
TRT: Testosterone cypionate is often covered by insurance when prescribed for documented hypogonadism (typically requiring two morning total testosterone readings below 300 ng/dL). Coverage varies significantly by plan. TrueTRT covers insurance considerations.
Hair loss: Generally not covered by insurance (considered cosmetic). Generic finasteride is inexpensive enough ($15–30/month) that insurance coverage is less critical.
Many men's health telehealth expenses qualify for HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) reimbursement, even when the platform doesn't accept insurance directly. Prescription medications for documented medical conditions are almost universally HSA/FSA eligible. Telehealth consultation fees are typically eligible. Lab work ordered by a provider is eligible.
Care Bare Rx explicitly markets FSA/HSA eligibility. Sesame Care accepts some insurance plans and provides documentation suitable for HSA/FSA reimbursement.
Don't assume your men's health treatment can't be partially or fully covered. Check your insurance for generic medications. Use your HSA/FSA for telehealth expenses. And for our complete guide to reducing men's health treatment costs, see our cost-saving article.
