Ten minutes of preparation is the difference between a same-day prescription and a sign-up that stalls for a week. Here's the complete list.

Quick answer

Have these before you start: an unexpired government photo ID, a blood pressure reading from the last few days, a complete list of medications and conditions, a payment method, a shipping address you've double-checked, and a private place with good connection for a 10–15 minute video visit. That's everything Roman needs. Without the ID and the blood pressure reading, the process stops.

Online ED evaluations are quick when you have what they need and frustrating when you don't. Roman's process in particular requires a few specific things — a government ID, a blood pressure reading, a video visit — that most men can produce in minutes if they know in advance. This is the complete checklist, in the order you'll use it, with a note on why each item matters so you don't skip one that seems optional.

Item by Item

Government photo ID

Driver's licence, state ID card or passport, unexpired. Photograph it flat, in daylight, all corners visible, no glare or fingers. This is the most common upload to fail on quality. If your licence has expired, use a passport; if you have neither, sort that out before signing up.

Blood pressure reading

Roman requires one, and it's the item most men don't have on hand. Options: a home cuff (any pharmacy sells them), a free pharmacy kiosk, or a recent reading from a doctor's visit. Take it seated, after a few minutes' rest, and note both numbers. A reading from the last few days is fine. Full instructions: How to Get a Blood Pressure Reading for Telehealth.

Medication list

Everything, including things that seem irrelevant. The clinician is checking for nitrates (absolute contraindication), alpha-blockers and blood pressure drugs (additive effect), and CYP3A4 inhibitors like certain antifungals, antibiotics and HIV medications (raise sildenafil levels). Supplements count. If you're not sure what something is, list it by name and let the clinician decide.

Medical history

Heart attack, stroke, angina, arrhythmia, heart failure, uncontrolled blood pressure (high or low), liver or kidney disease, retinal conditions, sickle cell, a history of priapism, and any prostate treatment. Recent chest pain or a cardiac event in the last six months is particularly important. None of these is automatically disqualifying, but every one of them changes the conversation.

A private space and a camera

The video visit is short and clinical. You need somewhere you can speak plainly for fifteen minutes and a device with a front camera and a stable connection. A parked car works. A shared office doesn't.

Shipping address

Check it. An apartment number left off or a transposed digit sends the package back and costs the week you were trying to save. If you'd prefer delivery somewhere other than home, set that up now; see Discreet Shipping.

Payment

Roman is cash-pay by card. Prescription ED medication is generally an eligible HSA/FSA expense; Roman receipts can be submitted for reimbursement. PeterMD accepts HSA/FSA cards directly at checkout.

Helpful but Not Required

What You Don't Need

If You'd Rather Skip the Video Visit and BP Reading

PeterMD reviews a written intake without a video visit or blood pressure reading, with public pricing and fixed packs. You still need ID, your medication list and honest history. It's a lighter checklist for experienced, healthy users; Roman's is the fuller evaluation we'd recommend for a first prescription or anyone with health history.

Eligibility Note

Availability depends on state clinician licensing. PeterMD lists 48 states; Roman's coverage also varies. Both show eligibility during sign-up. Certain conditions and medications will result in a clinician declining to prescribe, which is the evaluation doing its job. See Eligibility and State Availability.

The Two-Minute Prep, Written Out

  1. Put your driver's licence on a table by a window; photograph it flat with your phone. Check the image is sharp and complete.
  2. Open your phone's notes app and list every medication and supplement you take, with doses if you know them. Add any conditions from the history list above.
  3. If you don't have a blood pressure cuff, drive to a pharmacy kiosk, sit for five minutes, take two readings, note the second.
  4. Write down your shipping address exactly as you'll enter it.
  5. Decide where you'll take the video call and check the connection there.

That's the whole preparation, and it's the difference between a twenty-minute sign-up and one that drags across a week. Most men who stall do so at step 3; do it first.

For Refills and Re-Evaluations

You won't need most of this again. Refills ship on schedule with no new documents. A prescription renewal or a dose change is a message, and the clinician already has your file. The one item worth keeping current is the blood pressure reading: if a clinician check-in asks for an updated one, having a home cuff turns it into a two-minute task rather than another trip. That's the strongest argument for the $20–$40 monitor.

Our Verdict — September 2026

ID, blood pressure reading, medication list, private space, verified address, card. Six things, ten minutes to assemble, and the whole evaluation becomes a single sitting. The blood pressure reading is the one that catches people out; get it before you open the sign-up page. Then Roman's process is about twenty minutes of your time and typically finished within a day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ID do I need for Roman?

An unexpired government-issued photo ID such as a driver's licence, state ID or passport. It's used to verify identity and age before a clinician can prescribe.

Do I need a blood pressure reading?

Roman requires one. A recent reading from a home cuff, pharmacy kiosk or clinic visit is fine. Enter it as systolic/diastolic, e.g. 126/80.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No. Telehealth providers like Roman have their own licensed clinicians who evaluate and prescribe. You don't need a referral or prior diagnosis.

Do I need insurance?

No. Roman and PeterMD are cash-pay. Prescription ED medication is generally HSA/FSA-eligible; PeterMD takes those cards at checkout, and Roman receipts can be submitted for reimbursement.

What medications do I need to disclose?

All of them: prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements. Nitrates are an absolute contraindication; alpha-blockers, some blood pressure drugs, certain antifungals, antibiotics and HIV medications matter for dosing.

Do I need a webcam?

A phone with a front camera is enough for the video visit. You need a reasonably stable connection and a private place for about 10–15 minutes.

Do I need to be a certain age?

You must be an adult; Roman's ID check verifies age. Provider availability also depends on your state.

Sildenafil, tadalafil and related PDE5 inhibitors are prescription drugs with real contraindications — notably with nitrates, certain alpha-blockers, and some heart conditions.
